Penn Yan village officials approved a one-time exception allowing a bounce house at Indian Pines Park for an upcoming Penn Yan Central School District senior picnic, despite existing restrictions limiting the attractions to Firemen’s Field.
During a special meeting May 6, trustees voted to allow the inflatable attraction contingent on liability protections, including hold harmless agreements and insurance certificates naming the village as an additional insured.
Board members discussed liability concerns during the meeting and acknowledged the village’s standing policy that bounce houses are only permitted at Firemen’s Field. Trustees ultimately agreed to allow the exception because the event is school-sponsored rather than a private party and would include sufficient adult supervision.
The board also waived the rental fee for the Penn Yan Central School District’s use of the Indian Pines Park pavilion for the June 11 senior picnic.
In other business, trustees approved changing Village Hall business hours to 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning June 1 and authorized the mayor to sign an appraisal services agreement worth up to $1,800 with Finger Lakes and Southern Tier Appraisal Group.
The board also entered executive and closed sessions to discuss litigation, contract negotiations, and annexation matters. Mayor Patricia Christensen recused herself from the annexation discussion.
