Cayuga Community College celebrated nearly 300 graduates Wednesday during its 2026 commencement ceremony, with school leaders urging students to remain “relentless” as they move into the next chapter of their lives.
The college said 297 students were eligible to graduate, making the Class of 2026 the school’s largest since 2022. Family members, faculty, staff and local officials gathered for the ceremony, which also featured remarks from Cayuga County Legislature Chair Jonathan Anna.
College President Dr. Brian Durant told graduates their accomplishments represented more than simply reaching a goal, encouraging them to continue pursuing growth, opportunity and service to others.
“You’ve proven something important: that goals aren’t just dreams you hope for, they’re commitments you work toward, one step at a time,” Durant said during the ceremony.
Board of Trustees Chair Tony Franceschelli encouraged graduates to take time considering their next steps before rushing into decisions about careers or further education.
Students earned associate degrees and certificates across 32 degree programs and 10 certificate programs offered by the college.
Student speakers included Alaysia Harris, who earned a degree in mechanical technology with a concentration in mechatronics, and Kassandra Williams, who earned a degree in music. Harris served as president of the Engineering & Technical Club and Tutor Club, while Williams served as treasurer of the Music Club and vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa.
The college also recognized students receiving SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence, including Jacob Soltero and Carissa Quagliata, along with several faculty and staff members honored for excellence in teaching, professional service and classified service.
