Teen dies weeks after gasoline fire in Ontario County

A 15-year-old boy has died after suffering severe burn injuries in a gasoline fire last month in Ontario County, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident happened April 23 at a residence on Little Church Road in Stanley, where the teen reportedly poured gasoline on a fire outside before the fuel exploded and ignited him. Authorities said the boy suffered partial-thickness burns across most of his body and was flown by Mercy Flight Central to Strong Memorial Hospital.

The sheriff’s office said the teen died Friday, May 8, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said Kristen Wildrick, 51, also suffered burns to her arm and foot while helping extinguish the flames. She was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Stanley Fire Department and Hall Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Authorities said the fire was determined to be accidental and not suspicious. The investigation remains with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
