A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering severe burns in a fire Thursday morning in Ontario County, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Emergency responders were called to a residence on Little Church Road in the hamlet of Stanley around 9 a.m. for a report of a teenager with significant burn injuries.
Investigators said the teen had poured gasoline onto an outdoor fire when the fuel ignited, causing an explosion that set him on fire. He suffered partial-thickness burns across a majority of his body.
Mercy Flight Central transported the teen to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care burn unit in critical condition.
Authorities said Kristen Wildrick, 51, was also injured while helping extinguish the flames, suffering burns to her arm and foot. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Stanley and Hall fire departments. After investigating, officials determined the incident was accidental and not suspicious.
