Yankees edge Rangers as Cam Schlittler outduels Jacob deGrom

Cam Schlittler delivered six scoreless innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field, improving to 20-10 while holding first place in the American League East. Schlittler matched Jacob deGrom pitch-for-pitch, setting the tone in a tightly contested matchup.

The Yankees struck first with two-out production in the opening inning when Aaron Judge singled and Cody Bellinger followed with a run-scoring double off the wall. From there, both starters settled in. Schlittler worked through six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out eight. He escaped a sixth-inning jam by retiring the final three batters after putting two on base.

DeGrom was equally sharp, limiting New York to one run on three hits over six innings. The Yankees added insurance in the seventh when Austin Wells connected for a solo home run to make it 2-0. Judge provided another key swing in the ninth, blasting a 424-foot solo homer to extend the lead to three runs.

The bullpen faced pressure late as Texas rallied in the ninth. A triple brought home one run, and a single cut the deficit to 3-2 with the tying run on base. David Bednar secured the victory by inducing a game-ending double play after navigating the late threat.
