Sweet Treat Trail returns to Cayuga County with America 250 theme

Cayuga County’s signature dessert tour is back for another season, inviting residents and visitors to explore dozens of local stops as part of a self-guided experience that blends small business promotion with a summer-long attraction.

The Finger Lakes Sweet Treat Trail officially launched for its 13th season and will run from May through October, featuring 26 locations across the county offering everything from baked goods and ice cream to maple products and specialty confections.

Organized by the Cayuga County Office of Tourism, the trail includes 20 returning businesses and six new participants for 2026: Auburn Bagel Company, Sweets by Sarah Bakery, Rowans Bar & Grill, Mazza Cravings, Believe Bakery, and Bradt Road Maple.

This year’s theme, “Stars, Stripes & Sweet Treats,” ties into the national America 250 celebration, with organizers framing the trail as a locally focused take on classic Americana desserts and traditions.

Participants can visit stops at their own pace, with offerings ranging from pastries and chocolates to farm-fresh products. The program is designed to highlight small businesses and the county’s agricultural roots while encouraging visitors to travel throughout the region.

Local business owners say the trail provides meaningful exposure and collaboration opportunities. Jamison Mills, owner of Reese’s Dairy Bar, said the program has helped bring in new customers and strengthen connections between vendors.

The trail also includes a prize component. Visitors can enter a giveaway by taking photos at participating locations and uploading them online, with each stop increasing the number of entries. A drawing is scheduled for Sept. 2, with two prize baskets to be awarded.

Tourism officials plan to promote the trail throughout the summer at events including the Owasco Farmers Market, where representatives will provide information and connect with participants.

Maps and brochures are available at the Equal Rights Heritage Center in Auburn and at participating businesses.
