A man wanted on a felony drug warrant was found hiding in the trunk of a vehicle during a traffic stop in Auburn, according to police.
The arrest followed a report April 27 that the suspect, identified as Amonti J. Fletcher, had an outstanding warrant issued by the Ogdensburg Police Department for felony-level drug possession.
Police said New York State Police were initially dispatched around 6 p.m. to the Wheat Street Apartments in Cayuga after receiving information that Fletcher had been seen getting into a red van and attempting to conceal himself.
A “be on the lookout” alert was issued to law enforcement across Cayuga County. A short time later, the vehicle was spotted entering Auburn on Genesee Street and was stopped in the area of Tops.
During the stop, officers located Fletcher hiding under a pile of clothing in the trunk of the vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Fletcher was transported to the Watertown area, where he was turned over to the Ogdensburg Police Department in connection with the outstanding warrant.
