Fire tears through home in Junius; residents not inside

Heavy smoke and flames poured from a home in the Town of Junius late Friday as first responders rushed to contain a structure fire on Whiskey Hill Road.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched around 5:07 p.m. on April 24 to 290 Whiskey Hill Road, where they found the residence already engulfed with fire and thick black smoke.

Deputies entered portions of the structure that had filled with smoke but had not yet been overtaken by flames, clearing the home and confirming that no residents were inside at the time of the fire.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Waterloo, Border City, and Junius fire departments, North Seneca Ambulance, the county fire coordinator, New York State Police, the American Red Cross, and additional mutual aid crews.

Officials said the investigation remains active as the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team works to determine the cause.
