The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros 8-3 on Saturday night at Daikin Park, extending their win streak to eight games. New York continued its surge behind a mix of timely power, depth production and steady pitching, improving its record to 18-9.
The Yankees got contributions up and down the lineup, with the bottom third playing a major role in the win. Austin Wells, José Caballero and Ryan McMahon combined for a big night at the plate, while Trent Grisham provided an early spark. On the mound, Ryan Weathers worked through early traffic before settling in, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings.
After falling behind in the first inning, the Yankees responded in the third when Grisham launched a solo homer to tie the game. Caballero followed with another solo shot in the fifth to give New York the lead, and after Houston briefly evened things up, Wells delivered the go-ahead blow with a solo homer in the seventh.
From there, the Yankees created separation with disciplined at-bats and clutch situational hitting. Bases-loaded walks helped extend the lead before additional runs in the eighth and ninth put the game out of reach. The bullpen handled the rest, limiting Houston’s chances late.
The Yankees will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. with Luis Gil on the mound.
