Mets undone by four double plays in loss to Rockies

The New York Mets couldn’t sustain offensive momentum on Friday night, falling 4-3 to the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field as four double plays undercut scoring chances. After breaking out with 10 runs the previous game, New York slipped back to inconsistent production despite outhitting Colorado.

New York Mets created early traffic but repeatedly saw rallies erased. Brett Baty helped produce the first run in the second inning, scoring after Marcus Semien grounded into a double play. That set the tone for the night, as multiple innings ended the same way. The Mets finished with four double plays, including three against starter Michael Lorenzen, who limited the damage despite allowing several baserunners.

Freddy Peralta delivered a solid start but ran into trouble in the middle innings. He kept Colorado off the board through four frames before allowing the tying run in the fifth. In the sixth, a walk and a single set up a go-ahead double that ended his night. Peralta finished with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings while allowing two earned runs.

The bullpen kept the game within reach until the seventh, when Sean Manaea surrendered a two-run single that proved decisive. New York mounted one final push in the eighth, as Baty delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to one. However, the rally ended abruptly when Mark Vientos lined into a double play, the Mets’ fourth of the game.

New York went quietly in the ninth, unable to complete the comeback.
