Cornell men’s track and field opens Penn Relays behind Attiogbe’s win, strong all-around efforts

The Cornell men’s track and field team turned in an impressive start at the Penn Relays on Thursday, highlighted by a first-place finish from Pierre Attiogbe and several standout performances across the track and field events.

Attiogbe delivered the top result of the day in the championship section of the 5,000 meters, winning the race in a personal-best time of 13:37.70. The junior’s performance vaulted him to third on Cornell’s all-time list and currently ranks second in the Ivy League this season. Teammate Matthew O’Brien also competed in the event, finishing 41st with a time of 14:15.78.

In the field events, Peter Northrup posted a strong showing in the college section of the hammer throw, placing sixth with a mark of 58.78 meters.

On the track, Ryder King added another highlight performance in the championship section of the 400-meter hurdles. The sophomore finished fourth with a personal-best time of 50.72 seconds, moving him to second all-time in program history. His mark also ranks second in the Ivy League this season.

Cornell will continue competition at the Penn Relays on Friday, with events scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
