A team from Cornell University claimed first place in a national collegiate ethics competition, topping a field of finalists in Washington, D.C., and earning the largest share of a $250,000 prize pool.
The National Ethics Case Competition brought together top student teams from across the country, challenging them to navigate complex business dilemmas under pressure while applying ethical decision-making principles.
The final round, held at The Mayflower Hotel, featured five teams that advanced through multiple stages of competition. Judges from business, public policy, and ethics evaluated each team’s recommendations and responses during live presentations.
Cornell secured the top spot, followed by New Mexico State University in second place and the University of Denver in third.
The competition focuses on real-world scenarios at the intersection of business and ethics, requiring students to analyze problems, defend their reasoning, and respond to competing viewpoints in real time.
Organizers said the event continues to grow in reach and significance, with 18 semifinalist teams competing this year before the field narrowed to the final five.
Leaders involved in the competition said the format is designed to prepare students for decision-making in high-stakes environments, emphasizing the role of ethical judgment alongside business strategy.
The event is hosted by Texas A&M University in partnership with the Daniels Fund, a private foundation focused in part on ethics education and leadership development.
