Auburn music lovers will have a chance to hear some of the most recognizable orchestral works ever written when the Auburn Chamber Orchestra takes the stage for a free performance next month.
The concert, titled “An Afternoon of Overtures,” is scheduled for Sunday, May 3 at the REV/Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, featuring a lineup of celebrated pieces that have transcended their original roles as opera introductions to become standalone favorites.
Under the direction of Dr. Victor Vallo Jr., the program will take audiences through a range of eras and styles, highlighting works by composers including Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi and Tchaikovsky.
Selections include “The Impresario Overture” by Mozart, Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture,” “The Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppé, Verdi’s “Nabucco Overture,” Glinka’s “Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture,” and Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
Organizers say the concert is designed to showcase overtures as full concert pieces, offering a musical journey across centuries and styles.

The Auburn Chamber Orchestra, now in its 39th season, features musicians from a variety of backgrounds and communities, bringing together performers of different ages and professions.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. While admission is free, donations will be accepted to support the orchestra.
