Yates County deputy, sheriff’s secretary complete statewide civil law training

Two members of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office have completed the first phase of a statewide training program focused on civil law enforcement.

Deputy Sheriff Peter Skelly and Sheriff’s Secretary Margaret Brennan were among 63 participants from across New York who attended the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute Civil School in Saratoga Springs.

The program, which spans two weeks, provides instruction on civil law enforcement responsibilities, including serving legal documents and enforcing court orders and judgments. It also offers a forum for law enforcement personnel to discuss emerging issues and share best practices.

The Sheriffs’ Institute, established in 1979, supports criminal justice education and initiatives aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency and assisting crime victims and their families.

Yates County officials congratulated Skelly and Brennan on completing the first phase of the training.
