Habitat plans Hornell ReStore for early 2027 as donations begin arriving

Steuben County Habitat for Humanity is preparing a second ReStore outside Hornell, where sales of donated goods will help build affordable homes for people and families who might otherwise be unable to buy one.

The nonprofit plans to open in early 2027, according to its Oct. 12 announcement. The store will be in the town of Hornell; Habitat already operates a ReStore in Corning.

The new location is at 6017 Magee Road, in a former church with room to process donations and a large retail floor, WENY reported Monday.

Its planned merchandise includes home décor, building supplies, electronics, kitchen items, furniture, children's items and clothing, matching the mix offered at the Corning store.

Donations and volunteers help prepare the space

The lease was signed last week, and donations began arriving Monday, Oct. 19, according to WENY. Students in GST BOCES' New Visions Innovation, Leadership and Business program helped unload and sort the goods.

Student Ty Sandvoss told the station that crews directed cars, unloaded donations and moved items to another group working on sorting them inside.

Jonathan Wylie, the ReStore manager, told WENY the first day's response was encouraging. “To be able to pull this together, and showing up and supporting — the amount of donations we got today is fabulous,” he said.

Work to prepare the building continues, and Habitat plans additional donation drives to build its inventory, WENY reported. The organization will publicize those drives and volunteer opportunities through its social media channels; its Hornell ReStore page directs people to follow Facebook updates or check back for opening information.
