More seniors in Hornell can now get property tax relief as costs rise, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The city expanded its exemption program, raising the income limit and switching to a sliding scale.
Residents 65 and older earning up to $25,000 now qualify, up from the previous $18,000 cap. Those with the lowest incomes can get a 50% tax break, with smaller exemptions as income increases.
City leaders say the change helps seniors stay in their homes despite rising expenses. Officials also say the update won’t significantly impact overall tax revenue.
