Road work begins on Lake Avenue in Auburn as major construction projects ramp up

Construction activity is ramping up along a key corridor in Auburn, with crews beginning preparation work this week on a multi-phase road improvement project along Lake Avenue.

City officials say the initial work, which starts the week of April 13, will focus on a stretch between Osborne Street and Swift Street, where contractors will begin removing old trolley tracks and coordinating with underground utility work already underway.

The work is being completed by Northern Asphalt and is expected to continue through mid-May, culminating in the full repaving of that section of roadway. Motorists should expect delays and changing traffic patterns as crews work through the corridor.

The Lake Avenue project is part of a broader series of infrastructure upgrades planned across the city this year. Officials said additional repaving is scheduled later this summer on Lake Avenue from Swift Street south to the city line at Fleming Street.

Looking ahead, a major disruption is expected later this year with the Lake Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The bridge is scheduled to close on June 29 and remain shut down through the end of August 2027, a timeline that could significantly impact traffic flow in the area.

City officials are urging drivers to use caution when traveling through active work zones and to plan for potential delays as construction activity increases throughout the spring and summer months.

The city’s broader 2026 road program is also moving forward, with projects currently out to bid as Auburn continues to address long-term infrastructure needs.
