Aurelius barn destroyed by overnight fire: What we know now

Multiple fire departments responded to a fully involved barn fire along Route 326 in Cayuga County, with crews ultimately knocking down the blaze and preventing injuries to people on scene.

According to the Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire, firefighters from Aurelius, Owasco, Fleming, and Throop, along with Auburn City Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene, where the barn was already engulfed in flames upon arrival.

First responders reported the structure was fully involved when crews arrived, requiring a coordinated effort to bring the fire under control. Additional apparatus, including a ladder truck, was called to assist.

Officials said the fire was knocked down within a few hours, with crews remaining on scene to conduct overhaul operations and ensure no hotspots remained.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

However, according to information shared at the scene, animals inside the barn were unable to be saved and are believed to have been lost in the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
