Yates County Legislature to hold special meeting on public safety facility

Yates County lawmakers will hold a special meeting next week to hear a key presentation tied to the county’s ongoing public safety planning efforts.

The Yates County Legislature announced it will meet in special session on Wednesday, April 8 at 1 p.m. in Penn Yan, with a focus on updates from consultants and members of the Ad Hoc Public Safety Facility Committee.

The meeting will take place in the Legislative Chambers at the county office building on Liberty Street and is open to the public. Officials say the session will center on a presentation related to a proposed or evolving public safety facility project, which has been under discussion in recent months.

The Ad Hoc Public Safety Facility Committee has been tasked with evaluating needs and options tied to public safety infrastructure, including potential upgrades or new construction. The upcoming presentation is expected to provide lawmakers with updated analysis, recommendations, or next steps.

Residents who cannot attend in person will have the option to join the meeting remotely via Zoom or by phone, according to the notice issued by the Clerk of the Legislature.

The special session comes as counties across the region continue to assess aging facilities and increasing demands on emergency services, often weighing significant capital investments against long-term operational needs.
