Waterloo to honor Purple Heart recipients

The Village of Waterloo is planning to recognize military veterans who received the Purple Heart.

Local officials said honorees will have their names engraved on the Purple Heart Monument in Lafayette Park.

The Purple Heart is awarded to service members wounded or killed in action while serving in the U.S. military.

Village officials said the recognition effort is part of ongoing plans to honor recipients in the community.

Applications are available at the Waterloo Village Office, the Waterloo Town Office and the Seneca County Veterans Service Office.

Applicants must provide proof of military service, such as a DD-214 or other official documentation verifying the award.

Officials said the program is open to eligible veterans whose service qualifies them for inclusion on the memorial.
