Officers reported seeing Matthew J. Machuga, 27, of Bath make contact with a protected party despite a full stay-away order of protection. Police said officers were familiar with the individuals involved and knew the order was in place.

Machuga was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bath Police Department for processing.

He was charged with criminal contempt in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and aggravated family offense, a Class E felony.

Police said Machuga received medical care at a local hospital while in custody before being transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.

Authorities said Machuga is a two-time convicted felon in New York who was recently released from state prison and is currently under supervision by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

He remains incarcerated at the Steuben County Jail and parole officials have been notified.
