The Buffalo Bills announced Friday they have released cornerbacks Taron Johnson and Dane Jackson, along with wide receiver Curtis Samuel and safety Taylor Rapp. The four transactions clear roughly $12 million in salary cap space as Buffalo prepares for the start of the new league year.
Johnson had been one of the team’s longest-tenured defensive backs. Drafted by the Bills in 2018, the slot cornerback developed into a regular starter and key contributor in the secondary over multiple seasons, appearing in more than 80 games with Buffalo.
Jackson’s second stint with Buffalo lasted three games in the 2025 season. The cornerback originally spent his first four seasons with the Bills before departing in free agency. He later returned after a brief stop with the Carolina Panthers, who released him following his lone season in Carolina.
Samuel joined Buffalo prior to the 2025 season after previous stops with the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders. The veteran wide receiver struggled to stay on the field and produce when healthy over his two seasons with the Bills.
Rapp appeared in 36 games over three seasons with Buffalo. He opened the 2025 season as the team’s starting safety and started the first six games before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. During his time with the Bills, Rapp recorded 158 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
