Man charged in $20K cattle theft

Seventeen cows are still missing after deputies arrested a man in a Jefferson County cattle theft case, according to WSTM.

Investigators say four Holstein calves were stolen from Bellwood Farms and 13 Holstein heifers were taken from Birch Creek Farms in Ellisburg earlier this year. Authorities estimate the animals were worth about $20,000.

Deputies charged Brett Bruneau, 35, of Mohawk, with two counts of third-degree grand larceny and one count of third-degree burglary, all felonies. Investigators believe the cattle were quickly moved after the theft and may no longer be traceable.
