Damaged Steuben jail property leads to felony charge

A disturbance inside the Steuben County Jail led to new criminal charges against an inmate this week.

Nicholas A. Harrison, 22, of West Morris Street in Bath, was arrested March 4 after deputies said he damaged jail property and possessed a prohibited dangerous device.

Steuben County sheriff’s deputies charged Harrison with criminal mischief in the fourth degree and promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a Class D felony.

Authorities said Harrison was already incarcerated at the jail when the incident happened.

He was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
