A draft comprehensive plan in the town of Ulysses is stirring debate over how to balance new housing with farmland preservation, according to The Tompkins Weekly.
Residents raised concerns during a Feb. 25 meeting about a proposed land-use map that designates some areas for medium-density housing, including parts of Cold Springs Road and Indian Fort Road. Some property owners worry the changes could alter property values and shift land away from agricultural use.
Town officials said survey responses from hundreds of residents showed strong demand for more housing, especially for retirees downsizing and younger residents looking for starter homes.
