A welfare fraud investigation in Steuben County has led to felony charges against a Corning woman.
Nadeen Gauby, 26, of Martin Hill Road, was arrested March 3 by investigators with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators allege Gauby filed false information with the Steuben County Department of Social Services and received benefits she was not eligible to receive.
Authorities said the alleged activity happened between Aug. 21 and Feb. 28. During that time, Gauby allegedly received $4,240 in benefits.
Investigators charged her with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony.
She also faces charges of welfare fraud in the third degree, a class D felony; falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony; and grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony.
Gauby was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
The Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
