Seeded second entering the tournament with a 39-3 record, Velazquez worked through the bracket without a loss before securing the title with a pinfall win over Section 10’s Cody Alessi in the championship match. The victory made Velazquez the final wrestler standing in his weight class and marked a career milestone to close his season.

Velazquez returned to Geneva on Sunday to a celebratory welcome, riding through the community atop a Geneva fire truck alongside coaches and teammates as residents gathered to recognize the Panthers standout’s achievement.

Also competing in Albany was Penn Yan’s Jacob Eaves, who went 2-2 in the 175-pound bracket to finish the season at 42-10.
