Canandaigua man faces drug and weapon charges after Thruway incident

A traffic stop on the Thruway in Onondaga County led to the arrest of a Canandaigua man on felony weapons and drug charges, state police said.

Scott H. Teerlinck, 50, was stopped around 9:29 p.m. Feb. 26 in the town of DeWitt for a vehicle and traffic law violation while driving a Ford F-150.

During the stop, a trooper saw a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance in the center console. Police said Teerlinck identified the substance as cocaine, and it later field-tested positive.

Troopers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and reported finding a loaded 9mm “ghost gun” pistol in the back pocket of the driver’s seat, along with several loaded 9mm magazines. Police also located brass knuckles in a door compartment.

Teerlinck was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, for the loaded firearm; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the brass knuckles; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for about 3 grams of cocaine. He also received a traffic citation.

The State Police Troop D Bureau of Criminal Investigation adopted the case.

Teerlinck was processed and taken to the Onondaga Justice Center for centralized arraignment, where he remained in custody. He is scheduled to appear in DeWitt Town Court on March 11.
