Fearing clashes between ICE agents and residents, Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby has spent months building federal contacts to prevent conflict, according to The Times of Wayne County.
Milby traveled south last year to study immigration enforcement and connect with officials, including Trump-appointed border czar Tom Homan. He says Wayne County won’t act as a sanctuary county, but his office won’t assist ICE without clear facts. Deputies recently declined to help in two Sodus incidents, though they transported a woman and child to Syracuse.
Milby says communication prevents violence like recent incidents in Minneapolis now under investigation. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has invited him as her guest to the State of the Union, citing his leadership on public safety and border concerns.
