An independent investigation by New York State Police has led to the arrest of a Corning Police Department recruit on domestic-related charges.
Dylan J. Ellsworth was arrested February 19 by members of the State Police Troop E Violent Crime Investigation Team at the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in Big Flats.
State Police said Corning Police Chief Kenzie M. Spaulding requested that the agency adopt the criminal investigation to ensure an independent review. The referral followed allegations of domestic-related incidents reported by Ellsworth’s former partner.
Authorities said the reported incidents occurred between August and December 2025. The Steuben County District Attorney’s Office authorized State Police to move forward with the investigation.
Troopers transported Ellsworth to State Police Painted Post for processing.
He faces charges of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a Class E felony; Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor; Assault in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor; and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a Class A misdemeanor.
Ellsworth is scheduled to be arraigned in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Part Court. State Police said they will request an order of protection for the alleged victim and a child.
The investigation remains ongoing.
