Newfield girls end playoff drought

Six years after their last postseason run, Newfield’s girls are back in sectionals, according to ESPN Ithaca | WPIE. The Trojans finished 9-10, clearing the .400 mark and snapping a drought that stretched to 2019-20.

Newfield won just one game last season, but this group flipped the script with tough man-to-man defense and tight chemistry. The Trojans slashed opponents’ scoring from 54 points per game to 41 by simplifying their scheme and committing to physical play.

Junior Egypt Smith-Henderson leads the offense and shoots better than 30% from deep. Seniors Emily Taylor and Sierra Lynch anchor a young roster that features eight first-year varsity players.
