Wayne Central graduate Cameron Blankenberg is beginning the next chapter of his basketball career at St. Bonaventure University after putting together one of the most accomplished careers in Eagles history.
Blankenberg becomes the first player in Wayne’s basketball program to receive a full scholarship to play Division I basketball.
During his time with the Eagles, Blankenberg helped lead Wayne to two Section V championships while establishing himself as the program’s all-time leading scorer. He finished his career with 1,680 points and collected numerous individual honors along the way.
Blankenberg was a two-time All-Greater Rochester selection and earned Section V Player of the Year recognition. He was also named the Most Valuable Player during both of Wayne’s Section V championship runs.
Beyond his production on the court, Blankenberg’s impact on the program extended to his leadership and work ethic, according to Wayne Central coach Bill Thomson.
Bills' Greg Rousseau named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after clutch overtime block “Cameron left a legacy,” Thomson said. He also praised Blankenberg as a leader and hard worker who earned the respect of both his coaches and teammates.
Blankenberg also follows a family connection to college basketball. His older brothers, Mason and Logan, previously played at Penn State-Behrend and Nazareth University, respectively.
Blankenberg credited the Wayne community for helping him reach this point in his career.
“I couldn’t have done any of this without the support from the Wayne community,” Blankenberg said. “I’m beyond grateful for everyone who’s been there for me and supported me throughout my journey.”
