Wednesday’s Wayne-Finger Lakes high school basketball slate featured 13 games, with nine girls contests and four on the boys side. The closest finish came in boys action, where South Seneca held off Mynderse in the closing minutes.
Anthony Volpe delivers grand slam, career-high five RBI in return as Yankees sweep Rockies The Falcons carried a 13-point lead into halftime before the Blue Devils tightened the game after the break. Mynderse cut the deficit to single digits in the third quarter and stayed within a possession throughout the fourth, pulling within one point in the final minute. Eli Albrecht converted two free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining to push South Seneca’s lead back to three. The Blue Devils had one last chance to send the game to overtime, but Nick Mansell’s long three-point attempt missed at the buzzer.
In girls action, Lyons returned to the floor for the first time in 12 days and earned a dominant road win over East Rochester in the first meeting between the teams this season. The victory extended the Lions’ win streak to three.
