Elmira man arrested after stun gun incident

State troopers arrested a man after responding to a reported disturbance inside a Chemung County home.

Troopers went to a residence on Universal Avenue in the town of Southport around 2:57 p.m. on Jan. 24 after receiving a call about a disturbance involving a weapon, according to New York State Police.

Police identified the suspect as Christopher A. Decker, 43, of Elmira. An adult resident told troopers that Decker was creating a disturbance inside the home and was in possession of a stun gun.

The complainant said Decker repeatedly activated and waved the device near them, causing fear for their personal safety.

Troopers located Decker inside the residence and secured a conducted electrical weapon as evidence. Police took him into custody without incident.

Decker was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony, and menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

He was processed at State Police Wellsburg and arraigned in the Town of Southport Court. A judge released him on his own recognizance and ordered him to return to court on Feb. 12.
