Laila Phelia delivered a dominant performance, pouring in a career-high 38 points to lead all scorers. Syracuse trailed after the opening quarter, 17-12, as Virginia controlled the early tempo. Sophie Burrows provided a spark late in the first with a corner three, and Uche Izoje added a basket before the break.

Virginia carried a 34-28 lead into halftime despite Phelia’s efficient scoring in the second quarter. Izoje’s free throws gave the Orange their first lead since the opening minutes, while back-to-back steals by Olivia Schmitt led to transition baskets from Phelia. Syracuse closed the quarter ahead 51-49.

The Orange took control in the fourth quarter behind Burrows’ hot shooting from beyond the arc. Burrows finished 7-of-8 from three-point range and added five steals. Syracuse capped the comeback with a decisive 9-0 run to pull away.
