House backs Finger Lakes water projects: Phelps, Throop, and Waterloo to benefit

Federal funding moved a step closer this week for water and sewer projects in Phelps, Waterloo, and Throop.

The U.S. House passed a major appropriations package that includes money requested by Rep. Claudia Tenney for several NY-24 infrastructure upgrades.

In the Town of Phelps, the package includes $1 million for a sanitary sewer distribution improvement project. Local leaders have pushed for upgrades to address aging infrastructure and improve reliability.

Waterloo would receive $750,000 under the proposal. The funding targets sewer system improvements and upgrades at the village’s wastewater treatment plant.

The Town of Throop is also included, with $750,000 set aside for a water improvement project aimed at strengthening the local system.

Tenney said the projects reflect long-standing needs across the district.

“Reliable water and sewer infrastructure is essential for public health, economic growth, and quality of life across Upstate New York,” Tenney said. “I am pleased the House passed this funding package to advance priority projects for communities across NY-24.”

She said she worked with local leaders to select projects that address critical needs and use taxpayer dollars responsibly.

The funding package still must advance through the full federal budget process before communities see the money.
