Late-night incident ends with charges in Canandaigua

Police arrested a man late Saturday night after investigating a reported disturbance on Chapin Street.

Peter Whiting, 20, of Rochester, faces a charge of strangulation in the second degree following the incident.

Officers responded to the area around 11:31 p.m. on Dec. 21. Police say a verbal dispute escalated, and Whiting strangled another person during the argument.

Investigators learned Whiting left the area before officers arrived.

Police say Whiting later turned himself in the same evening. Officers arrested him and transported him to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

The charge stems from the disturbance and findings from the investigation.
