A Southern Tier marching band welcomed the new year halfway across the world, according to WENY. The Corning-Painted Post High School Marching Band performed Thursday in Rome’s New Year’s Day parade alongside groups from Italy and across the U.S.
The parade moved through Piazza del Popolo, one of Rome’s best-known public squares. The annual event has run since 2008 through a partnership between the city of Rome and Destination Events.
International travel isn’t new for the band. Members previously marched in Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2022 and London’s New Year’s Day Parade in 2018, continuing a long-running tradition of representing the region abroad.
