Phone calls demanding money and posing as police have started hitting Cortland County residents, according to WBNG.
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says scammers claim to be law enforcement officers and pressure people to send payment to avoid arrest or legal trouble. Investigators stress that real police agencies never call to demand money.
Officials urge residents to hang up immediately and never share personal or banking information with unknown callers. Anyone who receives a suspicious call should report it to local authorities.
