Yates County rollover crash leads to DWI arrest

Deputies arrested a man Saturday evening after a rollover crash shut down part of State Route 247 in the Town of Potter.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Don P. Sipp, 49, of Rushville. Deputies arrested him around 6:55 p.m. following an investigation into the crash.

Deputies said Sipp drove north on Route 247 when his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned multiple times.

Investigators reported that Sipp showed signs of intoxication at the scene. Deputies put him through standardized field sobriety tests before taking him into custody.

Deputies charged Sipp with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable and prudent, using a vehicle without an interlock device, moving from a lane unsafely, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a felony.

Deputies transported Sipp to the Yates County Jail, where he refused to submit to a chemical test. Authorities held him for CAP Court arraignment until the following morning.

Rushville Fire Department and Middlesex Ambulance assisted at the scene.
