Hornellsville town officials pushed back on criticism from a state audit that flagged $1.1 million in sales tax misallocations and poor fund balance oversight, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.
In their formal response, the board said the misallocated funds were intended to ease tax burdens—not increase them—and claimed their new fund balance policy wasn’t triggered by the audit, despite its timing. Officials also emphasized the issue was an internal accounting shift, not extra taxes.
The board plans to address the audit publicly at its meeting tonight.
