William Smith dropped a 66-58 decision to Vassar on Saturday, undone by a strong second half from the Brewers in Liberty League play. The Herons fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while Vassar moved to 2-0 in league action.

Miranda Martin paced William Smith with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. McKenzie Mandyck and Ava Lobozzo each added nine points, with Mandyck contributing two steals and two assists and Lobozzo pulling down six boards. Giana Lobozzo and first-year guard Kira Ostovar scored eight points apiece, with Ostovar setting a career best.
Vassar countered with a balanced offensive effort, placing four players in double figures. Lindsey Shoulders led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Maureen Regan added 14 points. Sophia Ippolito finished with 13, and Elodie Ware chipped in 11.
The teams traded baskets through a tight first half, with William Smith shooting efficiently in the opening quarter and connecting on timely threes in the second. A late Vassar basket sent the game into halftime tied at 32.
The Brewers began to separate in the third quarter, using an 11-2 run to build a nine-point lead. William Smith stayed within reach thanks to second-chance points, but Vassar maintained control heading into the fourth. Despite the Herons shooting 41 percent in the final period, Vassar’s fast-break scoring and interior play kept the margin intact.
William Smith returns home Tuesday, December 9, to host Ithaca at 5:30 p.m.
