A former Throop town supervisor accused of stealing over $36,000 is asking a judge to toss the case, claiming it’s too old to pursue, according to The Citizen.
William Tarby, who already pleaded guilty to taking $10,873 during his final years in office, now faces a civil lawsuit alleging more thefts going back a decade. His lawyer argues the statute of limitations expired in 2021.
Town officials say they only recently uncovered the additional losses during a review of financial records and claim Tarby wrote checks to himself and made unexplained withdrawals.
