Attorney General Letitia James is reminding DoorDash delivery workers they have until December 31 to claim money from a $16.75 million settlement over unfair pay practices.
The deadline was recently extended to 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, giving eligible workers more time to submit their claims online.
“Delivery workers keep this city running, and they deserve to see every dollar earned for their hard work,” said James. “I encourage all eligible current and former Dashers to submit their claims right away.”
The case stems from an investigation by the New York Attorney General’s Office (OAG), which found that DoorDash used customer tips to subsidize guaranteed pay, rather than giving tips on top of it. This practice affected an estimated 63,000 Dashers who delivered in New York between May 2017 and September 2019.
Instead of passing tips directly to workers, DoorDash would deduct the tip amount from what it already promised to pay. The company told customers that Dashers would “always receive 100 percent of the tip,” but that wasn’t the full story. Tip policies were buried in online fine print, with no clear disclosures during checkout or delivery.
So far, over 30,000 Dashers have submitted claims. The remaining workers — who should have received notice via email, mail, or text from Atticus Administration — are being urged to file as soon as possible. All funds from the settlement are being distributed to Dashers.
The February 2025 settlement also required DoorDash to revise its pay practices, increase transparency, and improve Dashers’ access to order histories.
Anyone who needs help with their claim can contact the settlement administrator at 1-800-270-1039 or [email protected]. Additional information is available on the New York Attorney General’s website.
