Hochul promotes affordability agenda in state budget

Gov. Kathy Hochul is promoting a state budget agenda focused on lowering costs for residents and expanding access to services.

The plan includes proposals to reduce housing costs, lower auto insurance rates and expand child care access.

The budget calls for $4.5 billion in child care and early education funding, including efforts to expand pre-K and subsidies for families.

Hochul also proposed changes to speed up housing and infrastructure projects by modifying environmental review requirements.

The plan includes measures to address rising utility costs and reform aspects of the state’s climate law while maintaining clean energy goals.

Officials said the proposals aim to address affordability challenges facing working families across the state.
