Puberty prep linked to better teen mental health

Teens who feel ready for puberty report fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety, according to the Cornell Chronicle.

A Cornell study of 124 middle schoolers found that those with higher “pubertal self-efficacy”—confidence in managing puberty’s changes—were more resilient, even under stress. The benefit held true across gender, age, and pubertal timing.

Researchers say early, open conversations from parents about puberty can help teens build this confidence before symptoms of stress or emotional distress begin.
