Rep. Mike Lawler endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik for New York governor, stepping aside from a potential run himself, Spectrum News reports.
Lawler praised Stefanik’s conservative record at a Rockland County GOP rally, while she blasted Gov. Kathy Hochul over affordability and public safety. Hochul hit back, calling Stefanik’s recent comment labeling a city mayor-elect a “jihadist” Islamophobic—and blamed Lawler for supporting it.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says he’s still considering entering the race despite growing GOP support for Stefanik.
