Wayne County will consolidate its legal services into a new “Department of Law,” following a vote by the Board of Supervisors, according to Times of Wayne County. The move aims to boost efficiency and cut costs by merging legal staff across county agencies, including Social Services.
County Attorney Erin Hammond will lead the new department, overseeing civil cases, labor issues, and legal support for all county officials. Three assistant attorneys will be appointed, and the office will expand its reach to handle Social Services cases directly.
Officials say the plan will streamline operations as attorney retirements and staff changes take effect.
