High-speed chase through Schuyler County: Southern Tier man arrested

A Beaver Dams man was arrested early Thursday morning after leading state troopers on a chase through parts of Schuyler County and attempting to flee on foot.

The incident began around 1:20 a.m. on November 20, when troopers from SP Montour Falls tried to stop a speeding Ford F-150 on Baker Hill Road in the town of Dix. The vehicle also lacked plate lamps, prompting the stop.

Instead of pulling over, the driver continued north on State Route 414, then turned onto several side roads before entering a restricted driveway at Watkins Glen International. The driver exited the truck, went under a gate, and ran. After a short foot pursuit, troopers arrested 47-year-old Brandon M. Bennett of Beaver Dams.

Inside the vehicle, investigators found a bolt-action rifle with a spotlight taped to the barrel—chambered and loaded—as well as a shotgun on the back floorboard.

Bennett faces multiple charges, including two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon due to a previous conviction. He was also charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and trespass.

He was processed at SP Montour Falls and transported to Schuyler County Jail for arraignment. The investigation remains active.
