Cornell’s top HR leader heading to UCLA

Christine Lovely, Cornell’s vice president and chief human resources officer, is leaving the university next month to take on a new leadership role at UCLA.

Her last day at Cornell is December 15. She’ll begin her new role on December 18 as UCLA’s first-ever vice chancellor for campus human resources and chief people officer.

Lovely joined Cornell in 2022 after serving as associate vice chancellor for HR at UC Davis, her law school alma mater. During her time in Ithaca, she led the university’s HR operations through significant changes following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I truly love Ithaca, I love Cornell, and my time here has been really good to me,” she said. “But personal and family considerations play a huge part in this.”

President Michael Kotlikoff thanked Lovely for her leadership and praised her role in modernizing HR operations across campus. She helped launch tools like the Careers Hub and led efforts to build employee community through programs like CoworkerCoffee and WAGs (Workforce Affinity Groups).

Sean Moeller, currently associate vice president for human resources, will step in as interim HR leader. He’s been with Cornell since 2018 after nearly two decades at Penn State.
